SCHOOL HOUSES & HOUSE SPORTS

Started in 2019, RVPS established four school house teams. The four formed houses are Hickford Crocodiles (Green), St Vigeons Vipers (Red), Cheddar Roos (Yellow) and Darebin Dolphins (Blue). Once enrolled at RVPS, students will be allocated a house which they will be a part of during their schooling life at RVPS.

Students are involved with house activities throughout the year, both academically and for sports. School-based house competitions in cross country and athletics are conducted each year to promote a sense of community, inclusion and connectedness.

ATHLETICS

Early in term one we hold our School Athletics Carnival. All Year 3-6 students attended and compete in a variety of track and field events. Foundation-2 students participate in a range of team and individual games. Students learn and train in each of the events during P.E classes in the weeks preceding the carnival. Winners will proceed to the Keon Park Sport District Association athletics day.

CROSS COUNTRY

Late term one we have our 3-6 School Cross Country event. All Year 3-6 children will participate in their own age group. Students train during P.E classes and before school in preparation for the day. The top five in each age group and gender proceeds to the Keon Park Sport District Association in term two.

SWIMMING PROGRAM

RVPS offers all students a two week intensive swimming program. Students are taught how to swim and become more confident in water. Swimming teachers are AUSTSWIM and Swim Australia qualified.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Interschool sport is a highlight for students in Years 5 & 6. Football, soccer, netball and tee ball are the winter sports and they are played in term 2. Summer sport is in Term 4 and there is the choice of bat tennis, rounders, hard ball cricket and kanga cricket. Participation in team sport helps students develop friendships and cooperation skills.

BIKE EDUCATION PROGRAM

RVPS offers 5/6 students a bike education program where they develop the skills students need to ride safely and independently on roads and paths.

Bike Ed aims to enable students to:

  • gain knowledge and understanding of the road traffic environment and the road rules

  • develop the physical and cognitive skills to manage the road traffic environment safely as a cyclist

  • develop responsible behaviours, attitudes and decision-making skills for the safe use of bicycles both on and off the road through participation in enjoyable learning experiences relevant to their ages and abilities.

Bike Ed inspires children to develop their bicycle riding skills and their physical capability. Other benefits include enhanced health, fitness and wellbeing, confidence and independence and learning and social development.
