Understanding Your Child’s Report

School reports provide a snapshot of your child’s learning, achievement and progress at a particular point in the school year. They show what your child has been learning, the progress they have made, and the skills they are continuing to develop.

Learning is a gradual process, and every child progresses at their own pace. At different points in the year, students will be at different stages of developing the knowledge and skills expected for their year level.

Teachers use a range of information, including classroom observations, assessments and student work samples, to make professional judgements about each student’s progress along the Victorian Curriculum learning continuum.

Reports reflect the curriculum areas taught during each semester and show your child’s current point of learning and progress at that time.

It is important to remember that reports are a reflection of where a student is currently working — they are not a prediction of where they will finish by the end of the year. Students continue to learn, grow and consolidate skills throughout the year.

If you have any questions about your child’s report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Celebrating Learning

Throughout the year, students have opportunities to share and celebrate their learning through Celebrations of Learning meetings. These meetings provide a chance for students to reflect on their growth, share their achievements and showcase the work they are most proud of.

We encourage families to read their child’s report and the accompanying guide before attending Celebrations of Learning. These meetings are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning journey and the progress they have made.
