Foundation Orientation Program - 19th October UPDATE

Hello families,

Unfortunately, the news we were hoping for didn't come with the Premier's announcement yesterday. Even though many restrictions have been lifted, Melbourne has not quite reached the Roadmap Third Stage.

Unfortunately, this means our planned visits that were meant to take place this Thursday the 22nd of October are not able to take place.

We will be inviting all 2021 foundation students and their families to participate in a virtual meet and greet on the 22nd of October through Webex Meetings. There will be 3 times throughout the day for students and families to participate, at 10am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

Meeting link details will be emailed to families tomorrow.

Lou and Dylan will also be creating a series of 'about our school' videos on Thursday that we will upload to our school Viemo account and then email families the web link and passwords.

There are still 8 weeks remaining in this term so we are still very hopeful that we will be able to run an on-site program when we are allowed to.

Steve

Restrictions due to COVID-19 can change quicker than expected and we will keep everyone updated.

Once we reach the Roadmap Third Step, we will also be inviting 2021 Foundation students and families to visit the school individually, I am very conscious that some of you have not properly visited our school or it may have been over 6 months since you have visited.

We will also be visiting kindergartens and childcare centres, creating videos of our classrooms once students resume next week and being as innovative as possible to provide you all with the most comprehensive orientation experience available during these challenging COVID times.

I also want to stress that if you have any questions, concerns, ideas, anything; please call or email.

2020 DAREBIN OCTOPUS SCHOOL

Reservoir Views is proud to be the City of Darebin's Octopus Active Travel school for 2019/2020.

The program aims to create a safe school precinct that encourages students and families to choose active modes of transport such as walking, cycling and scooting.

As the successful applicant for this program, we have received over $150,000 investment in our school precinct. This includes a brand new bike shed, a fleet of bikes to use with our Bike Education program and the creation of active travel paths within our community.

CLIMATECLEVER SCHOOL

Reservoir Views has successfully applied for a free subscription to join the ClimateClever Schools Program to empower our students around climate action and lower our carbon footprint and utility bills.

The App-based program enables schools, homes and soon businesses to measure, compare and reduce their consumption, costs and carbon footprint from energy, water and waste. Users can audit their homes/buildings to help them better understand their carbon footprint, and where they can reduce based on their appliances and usage. They can also analyse and compare their appliances with other users. The App provides tips and recommendations for actions from no-cost, behaviour changes to appliance upgrades. Users can manage their action plans online through the platform.

This is a really exciting opportunity for us as a school and has been completely driven by student passion and commitment. I will send out more information about this program next term including how families can be involved, a key element will be establishing a Climate Clever Committee.
